
Raksha Kumar
Reporting Fellow
Raksha Kumar is a Reporting Fellow at Global Press Journal based in India. She is an award-winning multimedia journalist known for her reporting on human rights, land and forest rights, and media freedoms. Raksha has reported from more than 100 districts across India for publications including The New York Times, BBC, The Guardian, NPR, Foreign Affairs, and The Hindu.
Raksha is the recipient of the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Media Personality, the British Council Achievers Award, and the UNFPA Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity. She has also authored reports for organizations like the Committee to Protect Journalists, International Federation of Journalists, and PEN International, examining the challenges faced by journalists in India and beyond. She has been a fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University, the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law at Stanford University, and the University of Westminster as a Chevening Fellow.
Raksha is a Fulbright Scholar who holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a postgraduate diploma in International Human Rights Law from the National Law School in Bangalore.
